What We Believe

Simple answers to the common questions about our faith and what our church stands for.

Although a confession of faith can never replace the authority of God's Word, it expresses the essential convictions that allow us to serve together. With the Church of all times, we confess: « One Lord, one faith, one baptism. »

Key reference: Ephesians 4:5

We believe that the 66 books of the Bible are divinely inspired and are God's infallible Word. They are our final authority for what we believe and how we live.

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three people: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is omniscient, all-powerful, omnipresent and perfect in holiness, justice, love and grace.

Key References: Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:13; Jude 20-21

We believe that God created everything and created human beings in His image to know and glorify Him. Through sin, humanity has fallen, breaking our relationship with God and bringing corruption and death to the world.

We believe that all true believers are united in one body by the Holy Spirit: the Church, whose head Christ is. A local church is a community of baptized believers who gather to worship God, grow in His Word, serve one another and share the Gospel. Christ calls His church to fidelity, mutual love, spiritual direction and cooperation with other churches that believe in the Bible.

We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. It was conceived by the Holy Spirit, was born of the Virgin Mary, lived without sin, taught with authority, performed miracles, died on the cross for our sins, rose bodily from the dead and will return personally in power and glory. Although believers may have different views on the details of His return, we are united in the hope of His coming and the triumph of His Kingdom.

Key References: Matthew 1:20-21; John 1:1-2; 2:11; Acts 1:7,11; Romans 1:3-4; 4:25; 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10 Titus 2:13; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 John 2:2

We believe that we are saved by grace alone, by faith in Jesus Christ and His work accomplished on the cross. God justifies, regenerates, sanctifies and will one day glorify all those who turn to Him in repentance and trust.

Regeneration: The Holy Spirit leads us to the conviction of sin, true repentance and conversion to God in Christ, giving us a new heart that submits to Jesus as Lord.

Rationale: God declares the righteous sinner by grace alone, by faith in Christ alone and not by works.

The Christian turns away from sin and grows in holiness; This life of sanctification will be completed in glory.

We believe that the Holy Spirit dwells in every believer, giving the power to follow Jesus, serve Him and bear spiritual fruit. He teaches, guides, convinces of sin and gives spiritual gifts to build the Church. No particular gift is the necessary sign of true faith; God gives different gifts according to His will.

We believe in the body resurrection of the saved and lost: those in Christ will rise up for eternal life with Him, and those who reject Him will face eternal judgment. For believers, being with Christ is our hope both immediately after death and during the final resurrection.

We believe that baptism by immersion and the Holy Supper are ordinances given by Jesus to His Church.

Baptism is a public testimony of faith and identification with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection, and the church welcomes the baptized believer in his communion.

The Holy Supper is a memorial in which believers share bread and « the fruit of the vine » as signs of Christ's atoning death, proclaiming His death until He came

We believe in freedom of worship for all. Faith is a personal commitment, which is why we affirm religious freedom for all. Although we submit to the civil authorities, we do not recognize any right of the State to control the life and witness of the churches. At the same time, Christians are called to be responsible and faithful witnesses in public life.

We believe that God has created a spiritual world in which angels, good and bad, are active. God's angels worship the Lord, execute His judgments and serve believers, while Satan and fallen angels oppose God and His people. Through Christ's victory at the cross, believers are called and equipped to stand firm against these powers.
